I didn't have a lot of time for painting last weekend while in Wisconsin with my family, but I did manage to quickly sketch this line of trees visible from our hotel window. They lined the hotel parking lot, so it wasn't exactly a beautiful scene, but it was still good to find something interesting to sketch. I noticed this type of large pine tree (a google search tells me they might be white pine) during our drive through Wisconsin. They really stand out this time of year compared to the birch and other broad leaf trees that are still bare, and I loved the dramatic horizontal lines of their limbs and how they towered over the other trees.
I also ventured out for a few hours Saturday morning to take some photographs, so I'll share those in a day or two, as well as an illustration I'm working on of my favorite old motels in the area.
