I'm busy painting and working through week one of MATS, but here are a few photographs from a recent afternoon in Decorah, Iowa. I've been photographing a lot of small town main streets lately, and I've seen a lot of empty store fronts and boarded up windows, particularly in very small towns. So Decorah was a nice change -- it is a college town, and its downtown still felt vibrant and bustling. It has shops and restaurants and hotels and banks and a wonderful Norwegian-American museum. Yes, there are a few empty storefronts, but I've seen several ghost town main streets lately, so it was nice to see shop doors opening and closing, cars lining the street, and people walking in the alley doors to start their shift at a restaurant. I'm sure it helps that Decorah is a college town, and it was homecoming weekend no less, but it was still very, very good to see.
