I mentioned in a post last week that I was considering lowering the commitment I'd made to my daily 6x6 Project. In September I committed to posting a 6x6 abstract painting or pattern on Instagram every day. I didn't set any time limits for the amount of time spent working on each individual painting or the overall duration of the project. I started on September 8th, and proceeded to paint these little paintings for the next 25 days. And then a few days ago I stopped. I painted the last one on Thursday, and I haven't painted one since. Although I was hoping to continue this daily project for a lot longer, I've decided I simply need to slow the pace down.
I am constantly inspired by other artists' daily projects, but I also recognize that I need to make a bit more space and room in my schedule for other things. I did truly enjoy this project, however, so it is not dying completely. I'm just taking the commitment level down to a minimum of three a week. I want to continue to explore pattern and color and other styles in this format, but I also want to dive deeper into other projects: repeat patterns, illustration work, my flower paintings... and yes, maybe some other non-painting things too.
Balance is important, and this project, while I love it, threw me a bit off balance. So here's to more balance, more variety, and more 6x6 paintings.
Have a great week!
