The year is somehow half over. While the months, as always, have flown by a bit too fast for my liking, a lot of good things have also happened this year, including a new studio, a few trips to visit friends in Texas and California, and a lot of wandering and exploring. At the beginning of the year I mapped out some general goals for each month and last night I pulled out my notebook to see what I planned out for July all those months ago. The list included reminders to continue working and creating, a note to stay focused, and also begin narrowing my focus. And most importantly, it said to be sure that I enjoy it. So with that in mind, I decided that it is time for another painting challenge.
I'm going to post a new painting on Instagram every day during July.
I previously signed up for three paintings a week during my winter distraction challenge, which was a bit of a stretch for me at the time. So, I'm really not sure what is possessing me to increase it. But it feels like the right time for this challenge. I'm already painting nearly every day and I'm anxious to try new styles and explore new subject matter. A painting a day means, essentially, a finished piece, but for obvious reasons (including the fact that it's summer and I want to be outside enjoying it while it lasts!) the paintings do not need to be anything overly complex. It can include new finished illustrations, abstract sketches in my sketchbook, or a quick, little 3x3 inch painting.
Feel free to follow along on instagram (I'll be using the following hashtags: #julypaintingaday and #eastashleystudio). And feel free to join me! Also, when I'm wondering what the heck I was thinking by signing up for this, remind me that I'm supposed to enjoy it. :)
