Last weekend in Wisconsin Dells we stayed at a large, new hotel with an indoor water park. It was very nice, convenient, and a perfectly fine place to stay. But I'd rather stay in an old, interesting (and clean) motel with character any day of the week. I am more than slightly obsessed with the simplicity and classic design of motels built in the middle of the last century, and Wisconsin Dells is full of them.
On Saturday I decided to explore the area with the thought that I'd drive out into the country in search of some good scenery. But while driving through the older downtown area, I became completely distracted by all the old motels. I then proceeded to pull into the parking lot of just about every motel to take photographs. There were so many that I never made it out into the country.
