I'm continuing to look back over my photographs from the last year. Here are a few book themed photographs, and not surprisingly, they involve old books. The first three were taken in the stacks of my college library. I went back for a volleyball reunion last month and I made sure to spend some time walking through the stacks.
It was always one of my favorite spots on campus, but the reading room across the hall was probably my most favorite. Visiting places like this always instantly transports me back in time. In this case, I not only went back to my college days for a few fleeting seconds, but the endless rows of old books and the echoing quiet gave it a perfectly timeless quality. Almost magical. I can guarantee that I was smiling as I took these pictures.
I love my e-reader, but I do miss actual, real, honest-to-goodness books. Flipping the pages. The cover art. Seeing them around the house, and the sense of satisfaction as the bookmark moves slowly to the back of the book. It's a completely different feeling, and a completely different type of reading.
Even though my Kindle is more convenient, I think I'll probably start buying a few real books once in a while. I'm also dreaming of a bedroom that looks like this, so I'll need some books to fill all those shelves. It's as good of an excuse as any, I think.
