This weekend has been gorgeous. Sunny, warm. The leaves are changing. And how did I spend it?
Inside, of course. I came into this last weekend before next weekend's reception with a very long to-do list. And I've actually accomplished most of the things on my list. My goals were a bit bigger than what I could actually accomplish, but I'm seeing a lot of checked check boxes (except for the yoga check box... that one is very much unchecked). Overall it was a great weekend and I'm pleased with how much I accomplished, but it was all, of course, at the expense of spending time outside.... and these fall days are going to move quickly into winter. But I'm going to try to not be too hard on myself about it. Please remind me of that when it's 5 below zero in a few months and I look back on these days with regret!
So what did I do?
I spent a lot of time sitting at my desk in the living room painting. I had a goal of finishing two more paintings this weekend and I'm almost there. The barn is still not finished, and we'll see if it makes the final cut. It was the barn on the farm where my mom grew up in southwest Minnesota, about 30 miles from where I grew up in Jackson. All the buildings at that farmstead are now gone, so my mom and her sisters are particularly attached to it. I'm also sentimental about it, and I have no memories of it. Maybe it's because the barn where I grew up is now long gone too. I actually painted the barn for my mom a few years ago, but that was in oils, and I always wanted to tackle it again with watercolor. Here's hoping it turns out...
I finished one watercolor yesterday (of a 1940s car), ran a bunch of errands, and cut a matte (which was an adventure, but ended up working out in the end). Today I started the barn watercolor, and I also had to matte and prep all the finished illustrations (I'm up to 16 now!) to take to Paper Hat by Tuesday. Here's the view of my backyard from my office as I patiently worked inside and tried not to feel too horrible. I did go out there to do some writing for a few minutes yesterday. I think... It's been a bit of a blur.
So now it's Sunday night. I'm almost done with prepping everything so it's ready to go to the shop, and then I want to try to finish the barn painting. Oh, and I have to have dinner at some point here too....
I hope everyone had a great weekend, and if there was sunshine where you are, I hope you enjoyed it for me!
